The National
High School All-Star Combine® (NHSASC) today announced a new program to prepare
high school juniors and seniors to excel at the 2008 NHSASCs, increasing their chances
to earn a college football scholarship. Plus, the NHSASC has joined forces with
pro trainers Steve Wetzel and John Hutchings to give players a leg up on the competition.
This specialized combine pre-training was designed to prepare athletes for the specific
sports performance testing requirements of the NHSASC, Nike® and Scout.com combines,
including the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, agility test and bench press. Wetzel
will evaluate each participant in the first and third weeks to measure players’
improvements.
“The NHSASC’s new training program is by far the best pre-combine training in
Ohio,” says Don Zoloty, NHSASC president. “We created it specifically to help high school
players through the increased competitiveness for college scholarships. Not only
have we partnered with the most experienced trainers, but the players will have
the opportunity to train alongside NFL players to give them true real-world experience.
Plus, we’ll send your results to all NCAA® Division I and II college football programs
in the country.”
The five-week training schedule begins January 7, with four training sessions per
week. Each session costs $20 and will last approximately one and a half hours. Athletes
who pre-pay for all 20 sessions will receive a discount. Plus, those who complete
all 20 sessions will be invited to participate in the NHSASC Combine in February
at the Cleveland Browns Indoor Training Facility FREE!
The program will be held at
Ohio
’s premier training facility, The Edge Sports Performance Academy, at
9550 Ravenna Road
, Twinsburg OH 44087.
The NHSASC Combine Preparation Training was designed to elevate the status of an
athlete through superior performance at the NHSASCs, which are conducted in conjunction
with numerous NFL teams, such as the Cleveland Browns®, Dallas Cowboys®, Carolina
Panthers®, Miami Dolphins®, Jacksonville Jaguars®, Kansas City Chiefs® and the New
Orleans Saints®.
Wetzel
knows what it takes to help high school athletes succeed. He recently completed
his 17th season
in the NFL, which
has included stints as strength and conditioning coach for the Arizona Cardinals®,
Minnesota Vikings® and Washington Redskins®. His teams have made the playoffs 10
times, including an appearance in the Super Bowl®. Further evidence of Wetzel’s
expertise is that three of his assistants—Mike Wolf (Philadelphia),
Mark Asanovich (Tampa Bay/Jacksonville) and Jeff Friday (Baltimore)—have become head strength and conditioning coaches with NFL teams.
Joining Wetzel on the NHSASC pre-training team is John Hutchings,
who is currently a National Strength and Conditioning Association-certified strength
and conditioning coach at the
Edge
Sports Performance Academy
.
Wetzel has trained more than 29 Pro Bowl® players, including Anguan Boldin, Chris
Carter, Daunte Culpepper, Randall Cunningham, Larry Fitzgerald, Warren Moon, Randy
Moss, Robert Smith and Adrian Wilson. Hutchings’ local elite athletes include
Cleveland Browns® Andra Davis, Sean Jones and Chaun Thompson.
